How to set-up sql server 2000 in win2k3 Server to store big-5 Chinese data

I am using Windows 2003 Server English Version. I wanna store the big-5
data so I install the sql server 2000 as if i install it in the Windows
2000 with Server Collation of the Chinese_Taiwan_Stroke_CL_AS.
However, the data are stored into the database server in unicode
instead of big-5 in that of windows 2000 OS.

I would like to ask how i can set so that the Sql Server 2000 can store
the big-5 data(micmic.chion@.gmail.com) writes:

First of all, my knowledge and experience of Chinese and its character
sets is very limited, so bear with me.

I was under the impression that for non-Unicode characters sets, East
Asian languages are stored in varchar as double-byte character sets.
Unicode is stored in nvarchar. So you would probably use varchar for
your data. Could this be the answer?

Hm, if the columns in the database are varchar, then you just cannot
get Unicode into them. So my guess is that you do have Big-5 in the
database, and then something happens on the way to the web browser.

You could verify this by looking in Qurey Analyzer and doing a
SELECT on the table. If it looks OK, then I would guess it is
Big-5. Do run it even further you could do:

select convert(varbinary, big5col)

and the see whether the codes are Big-5 or Unicode. (This presumes that
you actually knows the codes for some characters.)

If my theory is correct that the data in the database is Big5, then
we need to find out why you get Unicode in the browser. Unfortunately,
I know almost as little about web servers as I know Chinese.

server and Windows 2K3.

select convert(varbinary, big5col)

It is found that the binary is the same.

I have found out that if you add the following in the heading of the
page,
this page can show the big-5 character.

<%@. codepage=950 %
As the string stored in database is in unicode format, if you set the
codepage as big-5 format, the data will be changed as big-5 and show in
the webpage.

Thank you for your great sugegstion

Hi guys..
I am given an order to buy a server and complete the setup. what shall i need to consider and buy? I need the server to store the company data. the data size is not much. other than SQL server software, what else shall i need? Actually company has another server and this is another new server. How about network card? How about the LAN cable? If i need to extend a cable from production line to the server farm, what shall I do and buy? Finally, How do i setup the server?
Thank you very much.Oh boy, you have a lot to think about and a lot to learn. I would suggest calling up a vendor or a VAR to begin discussing your requirements.

Have you logged in with the same Windows account, as the one with which you
registered the servers in EM?

|||the Exact same NT account on both. i actually solved my
problem, i developped something using SQLDMO
but still, it would be useful if i could share my SQL
registrations with other users.
with SQL 7, exporting registry keys to other users was
possible, but it looks like it's not working with SQL2K.
Actually, i get the exact same behavior exporting registry
keys with SQL2K (i only get Groups, i do not get servers
registrations)
thanks

How to set NT Authority in sql 2000?

We have an application store in a web server using IIS 6.0, however the application is communicating to sql 2000 that is stored in a 2000 server.

In IIS 6.0 the application pool is set to Network Services, therefore sql 2000 is looking for a user called 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.

But the login failed, and I don't see how to add NT Authority as a user in a 2000 server like you can in a 2003 server.

In all, we are trying to set permissions to certain users only by using the identity impersonate='true' in the web config file, but even with this setting set to true, and our network information set as a user in sql 2000, we still are denied access to the data.

What are some things we need to look for and what configuration do we need to set?

Thanks,

xyz789

P.S.
We also have all the permissions check to have access to all the tables and store procedures for each user.

Hi,

Are you trying integrated security and impersonating the current asp.net user?

Remove the anonymous access from IIS. Make sure in the authentication, only 'Integrated Windows
authentication' is checked.

You may need kerberos authentication.

How to set interval for geting trace data

Hi all,
Is this possible in Profiler or I have to do it by store procedures, and how
do I do that
tia
ZarkoAre you trying to get trace data at certain intervals, instead of doing it
continuoulsy? If so, I don't think there's a way out. Once you setup a
trace, it will continuously receive all the events.
