How to simulate Nothing from a deep link

Hello-

I'm working on an app that will create an HTTP connection to the SSRS server to gather a PDF generated by SSRS and place it on the LAN. looks something like this :

http://server/ReportServer?%2fDEV%2frpt_Sheet&rs%3aCommand=Render&rc:Toolbar=false&userID=NULL&StoreID=23&rs:Format=PDF

We have a few reports where 1 or more parameters can be null, but I'm having one heck of a time trying get this to work with a null value. Does anyone know what value is actually passed to SSRS when a parameter is NULL?

I have tried Nothing, but to no avail.

Thanks in adavance,

Tristan

Do not include that parameter in the link and set its default value as null or send something like this:

parameter name = "param1"

&param1%3aisnull=True

http://reportserver/?%2fReport1Test&param1%3aisnull=True&rs%3aParameterLanguage=&rc%3aParameters=Collapsed

This should work: =RowNumber("DataSourceName") as an expression in the
Value property of the first column.

how to share variables across packages?

I'm working on a solution in Visual Studio that has 3 SSIS packages, and now I want to add a 4th that needs access to variables defined in one of the other packages. How can I do that?

One way would be to dump out your variables and values to a raw file or db if you prefer. Then any other process from any execution context can access them anytime via a "source connection" to that file...

Kevin,

Have you looked at package configurations at all. You could set parameter values from a table or a parent package variable.

Yes, I intend to set my variables externally, via package configurations. But I don't know what a "parameter" is or how it differs from a variable. And I don't know how to allow my variables scoped to package X to be accessed by package Y -- how do I make package X to be a parent of package Y?

|||

Sorry I meant variable...not parameter.

In short, to make X parent of Y; you can use a Execute Package Task (control Flow) in X that would call package Y.

How to setup profile, roles, etc in my hosted sqlserver?

I've been working with godaddy.com, and when I setup there the sqlserver databases it tells me if I want to create the tables and stored procedures that conform the typical profile, roles and users features... the same as if I execute the aspnet_regsql.exe

Now I'm working with anotherhoster (aruba) and I've setup the database OK, but i didn't found any way to setup the profile, roles, users, etc features.
Aruba uses the mssql server web admin.

How can I setup this features? Of course, aruba doesn't let me to execute the aspnet_regsql.exe...

thanksNo idea??

I think it's an important problem, isn't it??

ASP.NET 2.0 without the specific tables and sps for users, roles, profiles, etc, aren't powerful!!!

Please, an answer!!!|||I would ask aruba to do it for you. I'm sure they have a way if they support hosting ASP.NET 2.0 apps.|||Yes Motley, I'm doing it... the problem is that aruba isn't well enougth solving things like thisSmile [:)]

On the other hand, with your post I see that there is no way to make it by myself, isn't it?

thanks!
|||Can you run scripts against the database? All the SQL scripts for ASP.NET application services are in the %windows%\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727 directory.|||Wow, I didn't realize they gave us the .SQL files. I guess I just assumed they were encoded/encrypted in the aspnet_regsql.exe file. Very nice.|||ok, I've found those .sql files andthey can be runned against the database.

They are:
- InstallCommon.sql
- InstalMembership.sql
- InstalPersistSqlState.sql
- InstallPersonalization.sql
- InstallProfile.sql
- InstallRoles.sql
- InstallSqlState.sql
- InstallSqlStateTemplate.sql
- InstallWebEventSqlProvider.sql

Should I run all??

On other hand, I've tried the first one and I've found a lot of problems. The first was the name of the database, taht I've changed, but the next was this error:

"Specified owner name 'dbo' either does not exist or you do not have permission to use it."

What should I do? Remove all references to dbo?

Thanks in advance.|||Yes, remove all references to dbo.

how to set up a 'cascading delte' in mssql

I'm used to working with Access but have moved to MSSQL 2005.
I have these tables:
tblCustomer: customerID (auto), name (nvarchar,50)
tblOrders: orderID (auto), customerID (int)
I use SSMSE. How can I set it up so that the related records in tblOrders
are deleted if I delete a customer.
Thanks.

ALTER TABLE tblOrders ADD
CONSTRAINT fk_order_customers FOREIGN KEY (customerID)
REFERENCES tblCustomers (customerID) ON CASCADE DELETE
Although, I must say that from my corners, this looks like a funny
business rule...

Those were imaginary tables, but thanks for pointing me in the right
direction.

How to set the parameter's default value dynamically?

Hi all,

Does anybody know how to set the parameter's default value dynamically?

I'm working on a report with some parameters against datacube, and I hope the default value of one of the parameters could be set dynamically based on the user's login.

Thanks,

Jone

Jone,

In your Report Parameter - Default Values - Non-Queries you can place an expression like so:

=IIf(User!UserID = "Bob", "USA","Canada")

I hope this is what you were looking for.

How to set rights in E.Manager Since it is a open book..

Hi,

For working with linked servers , Mr. Hills had replied like , one can
not see the login rights etc if the particular user is not in the
admin role in the Enter prise manager.

Since the E.Manager is a open book so that any one can access any
database , Do you explain me When the sql server E.manager ks the
user's login and password .

With thanks

RAGHUWhen you register a server in EM you specify an authentication mode.

If you choose Windows Authentication then the login information is taken
from your Windows domain login - you will have access only to the databases
to which your login has been granted permissions.

If you choose SQL Server Authentication then you can opt either to save the
login name and password in the registry or to prompt for a login name each
time you try to connect to the server in EM. Your level of access is
determined by the SQL Server login name supplied.

For maximum security use Windows Authentication or set the option to prompt
for a login name each time you connect. If you choose Windows Authentication
then also password protect your screen saver so that your PC is secure when
you are away.

Does that answer your question?

How to set path to db

How do I set the path to the working database for other users?
Currently it's on a mapped folder as Z:\
I know I can change the WORKINGDIRECTORY value but was wondering if there
was a way to do this when adding a user
Thanks to a post by MVP Hari Prasad for the following info:
osql -S Name -Usa -Ppassword
sp_addlogin 'SKY','password'
go
Use engdb
go
sp_adduser 'SKY'
go
When I first tested MSDE, it looked for a database in the DATA folder on the
local computer's drive. We've got the database mapped to a Server's drive.
When adding this user (I've got several that will have to be added), is
there a SP for the path. I'm either overlooking or there isn't one or I'm
looking in the total wrong place.
Also,Hari had posted that
sp_addrolemember 'db_datareader','hari'
go <enter>
was used and if so, is it required to give the member a specific role.
AFAIK, all users will have read/write access and I'm hoping that read/write
access is set by default.
Thanks,
David Guess
Well, I found sp_attach, one out of two so far.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but woudn't it point to the server's Data folder?
The server is on one machine, the data on another.
When we first set it up and upsized the Access database to SQL (via
BillQuick 2005 Pro), it put it on the server machine where MSDE was
installed.
When I did a second test, I changed the WORKINGDIRECTORY value in the
registry to point to the mapped folder and whenIwent to upsize it, it put
the data on the other machine where they want it.
They want the db to be on another computer that gets backed up daily and
also won't cause such a slow down on the server computer. MSDE is set up on
the one machine which they can access while the data is downstairs way off
to itself and there are other security reasons the don't want to allow
access for something such as Remote Desktop where they could easily make the
changes/additions as needed.
If I don't have to set the path, that'll make it easier on me but I have
this funny feeling I'll have to do that with the way they have their setup.
Anyway, I'll know how close I am to getting them access to the db.... I
think I'm close anyway. If the other users can connect to it I'll be fine
till one leaves to work elsewhere or whatever.
Appreciate the reply,
dg

I think you may be right on not having to add the path. I was so happy to
get the thing running and all users (20) added and running, I forgot to look
where it went. <G>
Things atarted out okay until we opened BillQuick on the one computer then
went to open it on the second and were prompted that the one user license
was already logged in. They have a 20 user license and we had to hunt up
what was going on there. Found out, that during the upsizing of the database
from Access to MSDE in BillQuick 2005 Pro, it does not include the
additional licenses. Entered that to get it to show 20 users and still,
could only log in one at a time. Looked thru everything and finally gave up
and called tech support and they too were stumped. Thgey asked for some
screenshots so when I went to log on the second user's computer, instead of
the prompt that one user was already logged in on one user license, it
logged it just fine. Haven't a clue as to why it did it that way.
Anyway, since I managed to get all the user logins, users added, and each
logged into the proper database I went home..
I'll check tomorrow to see where it landed, I do hope it is on the drive it
upsized the Access database from.
Appreciate the info and for someone who three days ago had never looked at
anything SQL/MSDE, I've learned a lot and feel the comfort level with it as
I do with VB6. I was reading on some of the scripting to help automate some
of this and will experiment with them. I, personally, won't be the
administrator on this so anything I can do to help them will help me in the
long run.
Thanks,
