How to simulate Nothing from a deep link

Hello-

I'm working on an app that will create an HTTP connection to the SSRS server to gather a PDF generated by SSRS and place it on the LAN. looks something like this :

http://server/ReportServer?%2fDEV%2frpt_Sheet&rs%3aCommand=Render&rc:Toolbar=false&userID=NULL&StoreID=23&rs:Format=PDF

We have a few reports where 1 or more parameters can be null, but I'm having one heck of a time trying get this to work with a null value. Does anyone know what value is actually passed to SSRS when a parameter is NULL?

I have tried Nothing, but to no avail.

Thanks in adavance,

Tristan

Do not include that parameter in the link and set its default value as null or send something like this:

parameter name = "param1"

&param1%3aisnull=True

http://reportserver/?%2fReport1Test&param1%3aisnull=True&rs%3aParameterLanguage=&rc%3aParameters=Collapsed

How to setup a repeated update to a table in SQL?

Hi:

I am fairly new to SQL Server 2005 and before now, I have only had to restore databases, and connect to tables via ODBC connection in a reference (read only) setup. Today, I have a very small project to set up using the server.

I have a userlogon.csv file that the network stores on a file server in a hidden share \logon$. It has 4 columns, UserID, Computer, Date, Time.

I was able to create a database called UserLogon and import the file as it was today. I want to create a scheduled update so the server would go to this file perhaps 4 times a day (or more) and grab any new logins that have appended itself to this CSV file.

So, as a newbie with a 1,900 page SQL Server 2005 unleashed manual at my side, could someone outline what the steps are in general I should follow to set this up?

I have the process laid out in my mind, but I don't know how to translate in into a scheduled task of the SQL Server :

1. Create DB and import the table (done)

2. create a stored procedure that connects to the CSV file and evaluates date and time stamps then appends any new records into the SQL db table. (appending records would be achieved by using the INSERT and WHERE statements?)

3. Schedule a job to perform this task on a routine basis.

It appears that the file connection portion of this set up is defined outside the evaluation and append record procedure? (not in the same stored procedure). Perhaps I tie the whole process together using the Job Manager, selecting the file settings, and then the stored procedure to be performed on the file.?

I hope I have been descriptive enough to ask if someone could outline the modules/features/processes involved so I can read up on them and figure them out using the book.

Thank you in advance.

David

David:

It sounds to me like you need a good book on the subject of "Database Design". I would suggest Pro SQL Server 2005 Database Design and Optimization by MVP Louis Davidson.

Maybe since you are just getting started a better choice for a first book would be Data Modeling Essentials by Graeme Simison

How to set up trusted connection on SSAS 2005?

Hi,

How to setup trusted connection on SSAS2005?

We followed step by step, but always failed, I have pulled off all my hair for this issue.

We are running AS2005 on Windows server 2003, the AS will be connected via Scorecard web service(Scorecard Manager) which is hosted on Sharepoint server.

Can anybody give me some detailed instructions?

Thanks

What are the step by step instructions you refer to?

Is this question about setting connection from Scorecard web service to AS2005?

Edward.

How to set up Report Model Datasource for proper deployment to WSS

Does anyone know how to set up the Connection string for the Datasource
inside Business Intelligence Studio to point to a Model deployed to a
Sharepoint WSS Deeply integrated Report Server. Also I am getting strange 260
character limit errors reported when I use the previous existing DataSource
Settings which work for a Native Integration Report Server. Two things
probably related so fixing first should get rid of second hopefully. Thanks
for any help in this matter.Sorted this out for myself already guys.
Pretty obvious really. If anyone else needs to know the answer reply to this
with tell me how, and I will reveal all.

How to set up connection to MS SQL remotely

If I let the pages (ASP) running on the third party server access my database (MS SQL) remotely, what should I do with my database server? I was told to open a port. If it is true, what is the number of the port I should open?
Thanks in advanceDANGER. Be careful. If you do this wrong you can open up your server for the world to access.

The default port is 1433, but if you are going to do this I reccomend changing that. You are also going to have to do stuff with your firewall. This is very dangerous and I would reccomend you explore other options. I imagine the peformance of the pages are going to suck as well.|||If you, against all advices, should decide to do this, you should definitely have a look at HTTP endpoints, and see if you could use a HTTP endpoint. If so, you should open ONE port (443) from ONE ip (the webserver) for ONE user, which authenticates using a rather secure method, as for instance a certificate.

This is the only solution I would think of that could come into consideration.

How to set connection, Send Parameter and Filter data

Dear all .Netter,

I'm newbie in Reporting Services. I'm able to creating raw Reporting Services reports.

I have these questions to you all :

1. How to change connection to server and database when running in ASP.Net form. Currently in development PC, the server name is ServerA and the Database name is DatabaseA. After i copy to production server, the server name is ServerB and the database name is DatabaseB.

2. How to send parameter to Reporting Services report. I want to show name of user that print the report.

3. How to filter data that will be showed in the Reporting Services. I want to print Invoice with no : INV-2007-0001 and next INV-2007-0002

Sorry, if I'm lazy, but i'm running with time to replace Crystal Reports with Reporting Services.

Thanks and Regards,

how to set connection string value by using SET switch of dtexec sql server 2005 command

hi

I need to load a text file into sql server table using SSIS package.

the idea is to load this file with the help of dtexec command by giving the file path and name in the SET switch of dtexec command.

anyone having an idea; would be of great help.

Regards,

Salman Shehbaz.

Try using the package configuration wizard to get the property path:

Jamie talks about it here:

http://blogs.conchango.com/jamiethomson/archive/2007/03/13/SSIS_3A00_-Property-Paths-syntax.aspx

o.kays

i finally got hold of the command;

here it is

execute master.dbo.xp_cmdshell 'dtexec /Ser "ServerName" /SQ "SSISPackagehName" /SET "\Package.Connections[ConnectionManagerName].Properties[ConnectionString]";"TextFilePath/Name"'

How to set connection at runtime

Hi,
Our application connects to one database in the testing environment and to a
different database in the production environment. Currently, with Crystal
Reports, we maintain a single set of reports, and at runtime, when the
reports are loaded, the application sets the report's connection acordingly:
if the application is comnnected to the production server, the report's
connection is set to the production server, otherwise to the test server.
Using MS Reporting Services, how can the report's connection be set at
runtime from the application before the report connects to the database?
Thank you in advance,
RichardHi Richard,
One way you can set the connection at runtime is through a user input
parameter. You would just have to reference Parameter!param.Value in
the connection string. There may be other ways to do it dynamically
without the user having to input data, but I am not sure if there is a
way for MS Reporting Services to tell which environment it is in. Good
luck!

How to set bound connection?

Hi,
I understand that if you want to allow many
concurrent users, one is set the connection to bound
connection and another suggestion is server isolation
level.
May i check with you, how to set the bound
connection?
Is it set it at the startup of the program or every
connection?
Set the isolation level beter or bound connection
better?
Thank you.
regards,
florence
Florence,
AFAIK, bound connections are used only with Extended Stored Procedures. Are
you using them?
